Questions about horticultural staff
The questions that almost always come up in the first phone call.
“We have had the same crew every spring for three years now. Induction only takes us half a morning.”
Greenhouse horticulture staffing partner across the Netherlands: what you can expect from us
BACKGROUNDWhy experience with the crop makes the difference
Crop work looks simple until you see what happens when it goes wrong. A badly twisted head costs production, a leaf broken off too roughly gives disease a way in, and a crew that doesn't know the rhythm of the pipe rail won't meet the daily target. With tomatoes, the hygiene protocol also counts: disinfecting hands and knives between rows is no formality, certainly not since ToBRFV. That is why we work with pools per crop. People who have worked with tomatoes, cucumbers or flowers and plants before return to similar businesses, so your production workers know from day one what twisting, side-shooting and de-leafing involve.
Over seventy per cent of our greenhouse pool works several seasons in a row for the same client. So you don't start again with instruction every spring, and the floor team leader knows how your greenhouse is laid out before the first trolley rolls. You notice this most in the busy weeks around planting and the start of the harvest, when every experienced pair of hands counts.
Across the Netherlands
We place production workers with tomato and cucumber growers and with flower and plant businesses across the Netherlands. Whether it is vegetables under glass, pot plants or cut flowers: we arrange housing and transport per assignment, so a crew arrives at the business complete in one trip. From our office in De Lier we plan the deployment and visit you on the floor.
Does your company work in two or three shifts? Then we plan transport per shift, including evening and night runs. The type of hours per shift is shown separately on the invoice, with the allowance percentage from the Greenhouse Horticulture cao.
Greenhouse Horticulture cao and hirer's remuneration
Everyone who works in the greenhouse through us is graded according to the cao that applies at your company. In most greenhouses that is the Greenhouse Horticulture cao. It goes beyond the hourly wage: job group, periodic increments, ADV (reduced working hours), shift allowance and travel hours are all part of it. As an NBBU member we apply hirer's remuneration (inlenersbeloning) as the NBBU cao prescribes. We record the grading in writing, so that during an inspection or audit you can show it is correct.
When the cao changes, we send you a recalculation in advance. You then know what effect the pay rise has on your hourly rate before the first invoice arrives.
Housing, transport and support
Many people working in greenhouse horticulture come from Poland, Romania or Bulgaria. We house them at our own locations, inspected annually by SNF, with a dedicated house manager per location. The weekly housing amount appears on the payslip and stays within the legal deduction limit. Our SNF certification has been applied for. We plan transport to the greenhouse ourselves, matched to your start times and shifts.
In the office we speak Dutch, English, Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian. We go through contracts, house rules and safety instructions in the worker's own language. That prevents misunderstandings on the work floor and saves you explaining during the busiest weeks of the growing season.
